Ask Anything Troubleshooting
Use this checklist when Ask Anything records silence, times out, stays in thinking state, or finishes without showing the result popup.
Fast diagnosis
- If no speech is detected, check microphone permission and input level first.
- If dictation timed out, try a short test question and confirm the STT provider returns a transcript.
- If thinking never ends, test both STT and LLM providers in settings.
- If recording completes but no popup appears, check whether the app window or result panel is hidden behind another window.
- If cloud mode fails, confirm account quota, network access, and provider keys before retrying.
Common Ask Anything failures
Why does Ask Anything show timeout?
Timeout usually means no usable speech reached the STT provider, the provider did not return in time, or the network/provider key failed.
Why is there no popup after recording finishes?
The popup depends on a complete chain: recording, STT transcript, LLM answer, and result display. Test providers first, then check whether the result window is hidden.
What should happen if no speech is detected?
The app should show a clear error instead of staying in thinking state. Check microphone selection, permission, and input level.
Why does it stay in thinking state?
The most common causes are STT timeout, LLM provider failure, network failure, or quota/key problems.
What information should I include when reporting a bug?
Include OS, app version, STT provider, LLM provider, whether normal dictation works, and the exact state where Ask Anything stops.
