Ask Anything Credit Usage
Ask Anything is a one-off voice question flow. This page explains when hosted STT, hosted LLM calls, cloud words, BYOK, and local providers affect usage.
How one Ask Anything request uses services
- You start recording and speak one question.
- OpenTypeless sends the audio to the configured STT path when hosted transcription is selected.
- The transcript becomes one prompt for the configured LLM path.
- The final answer appears in the result panel without chat history.
- Hosted STT and hosted LLM usage can settle as cloud words; BYOK/local paths depend on your own provider account.
Simple usage rule
If OpenTypeless pays for the hosted STT or LLM request, it should count toward cloud words. If you use BYOK or a local provider, OpenTypeless cloud words are not the billing source, but your own provider may still charge you.
Credit usage FAQ
Does Ask Anything count toward cloud words?
Hosted Ask Anything usage should count toward cloud words because it can include both STT transcription and an LLM answer.
Does BYOK usage count toward OpenTypeless cloud words?
No. BYOK usage depends on your own STT or LLM provider account, pricing, and rate limits.
Does a failed permission check use cloud words?
No. If audio never reaches a hosted STT provider, there should be no successful hosted transcription to count.
Why can Ask Anything cost more than simple dictation?
Ask Anything can use both STT and LLM work, while simple dictation may only need transcription plus optional polishing.
How should heavy users reduce usage?
Use shorter questions, BYOK providers, local providers where appropriate, and normal dictation when you only need text insertion.
