Install and launch OpenTypeless
Download the build for your operating system, complete that platform's install flow, and launch the desktop app to open onboarding.
- Download OpenTypeless for your platform.
- Open the installed desktop app and continue through the onboarding welcome and account steps.
Choose Cloud, BYOK, or a local route
Choose Cloud for managed providers, BYOK to enter provider keys, or configure local routes in Settings. Local STT uses a Custom Whisper-compatible endpoint; a local LLM route can use Ollama.
- Cloud selects the managed STT and LLM providers during onboarding.
- BYOK continues through the Speech Recognition and AI Polish connection tests.
- Local routes are configured in Settings with the endpoint and model exposed by the local service.
Create the first transcript
Use the configured dictation hotkey in a desktop app that accepts text, speak a short phrase, and let the selected speech recognition route finish.
- Open a desktop app with a text field and focus the insertion point.
- Hold or press the configured dictation hotkey, speak, then release or press it again according to the selected hotkey mode.
- Wait for transcription and optional AI Polish to finish before starting another recording.
Confirm the observable success state
The first transcript is successful when the spoken text appears in the active app or remains available through the configured clipboard output path. The desktop capsule returns from processing to its idle state.
